Why Kyle?
We need experience
Working as a teacher at J.W. Sexton High School was the formative experience of my young adult life (Go J.Dubbs). Today I’m working in the Autism Resource Room at Eaton Rapids Middle School and I’m building out my experience in Special Education. I know first hand the realities families, teachers, and staff face every day.
Since leaving the Lansing School District I engaged with policy makers at every level of government on issues related to housing, climate, and education, I served 2 years in leadership as Co-Chair of the Greater Lansing Democratic Socialists of America and participated as a founding member of Lansing Rent is Too Damn High and Lansing for Palestine.
I know what it means to lead because I do it every day.
We need steady voices
For years now politicians in this city have used the Lansing School Board as a stepping stone to higher office. On top of that, in the last 3 years alone there have been 4 vacancies on the board, this lack of commitment from board members forces the board to hold vacancy interviews that distract from the business of the Lansing School District.
I’m not interested in running for Mayor or City Council, my interest is with Lansing Public Schools. If elected I would commit to maintaining an attendance record of 90% or greater, I would commit to finishing the term, and I would commit to running for re-election in 2030.
We need new perspectives
As I get a little older I realize life is perspective and my perspective might differ from yours. I’ve reached my platform today through my lived experience in this community and deep historical study. I’m certain there will be points where you and I will disagree but in that disagreement is an opportunity for both of us to listen, to learn, and to find a new perspective together.
If we are to overcome what the future holds, it will take every single one of us.
