About Kyle
Howdy Neighbor!

My name is Kyle Richard (ri-shard) and I’m a candidate for Lansing School Board.
I grew up one block west of Waverly Road. One of my fondest memories from that time is walking with my brother for breakfast at Famous Taco. In the 6th grade my family moved 20 minutes south to Eaton Rapids where I graduated from high school as a member of the National Honors Society.
My family includes of Army, Navy, and Airforce veterans who participated in every major U.S. conflict since World War II. I am the first member of my family to graduate from college as a traditional student, graduating from Grand Valley State University in 2016 with a double major in Secondary Education and Group Social Studies (U.S. History, World History, Economics, Government).
I moved to Lansing in 2016 and accepted an offer to work as a Social Studies teacher at J.W. Sexton High School (Go J.Dubbs). Working as a teacher in the Lansing School District, I witnessed first hand the realities of poverty in our city and the realities of public education in that moment. I resigned my position in December 2018 when it became difficult to feed myself.
Since I left Lansing Schools I dedicated my life to activism and action. I advocated for climate legislation in Washington D.C., marched and attended rallies with Black Lives Matter, became a familiar face at Lansing City Council, served 2 years as Co-Chair of the Greater Lansing Democratic Socialists of America, knocked over 6,000 doors for progressive candidates in city, state, and federal elections, and participated as a founding member of Lansing Rent is Too Damn High and Lansing for Palestine.
Today I work in the Autism Resource Room at Eaton Rapids Middle School, I volunteer at the Mid-Michigan Tenant Resource Center and deliver pizza on the weekend.
Lansing Schools will always be part of my story and I’m grateful for every minute of it.
